Temptation’s such a flirt
Writing about the spectrum of excess and how I continuously find myself strung out on those things I don’t intend. While relapse is not my temptress, the allure of easy dopamine surely is.
Cold coke in a can on a hot Alabama day is the only cure for a headache I can rely on. At this point the medication, booze, and bad diet have all coalesced in the depth of my stomach, creating the wound that never quite heals.
I traveled from the edge of the spectrum of excess and have found myself only a quarter of the distance to the other side. You know the one, where I’m pure and good and whole.
The point where I no longer depend on or ingest unhealthy things. If only I could tend to my practices, I could probably begin to inch forward once again.
Smoke always makes my head swim. The alcohol must have really dulled the sense to keep pulling the fumes deep into my lungs.
There was always one more drink. There was always one more cigarette.
Of course, the other vices sneak up on me. They are less obvious, more sinister.
Screen time is a pool where my feet can’t touch the bottom. Food helps me leave my body so I don’t have to be with her when I drown.
If I cling now to the pen like a life raft, that’s because it’s made promises it should plan to keep.
Who wants to draw the map out of our dread and back to actual living? I know I do.

Open for Collaborations

My Care Mail Art Club is open for sign-ups!
Mail club sign-ups are open! Creating for my mail club (I currently have two members, it’s the best) has become one of my favorite creative challenges of the month. Sign-ups are open for a monthly membership, but there is also an option for one-off purchase for those with subscription fatigue. You can get more info on all that on my Ko-fi. It’s $11 untracked. Each package is unique, though the standard set-up is that members will usually receive at least an original artwork, a new sticker, and a new zine (and usually more). Also, listings for collage packs are still up. Let’s keep creating <3
