This week, I’ll be sharing a few side quests that will be good tools to keep on hand for your creative practice both through this journey and outside of it. Normally, side quests will be for paid subscribers but I will share a preview of one this week. I forgot to include this last week, but please utilize the hashtag #iridescentexplorations if you choose to share your creations and feel free to tag me! This is a project I am working through as well, and it will be fun to see others who move through it with me.
Ephemera Quest
When beginning this journey, create a selection of papers you can use to create ephemera. This can be anything you want, but there will be some exercises where we cover the papers. During each stage, make sure you stay tapped in with your emotions and how you feel in your body. Use ink or paint in whatever colors speak to you to cover papers. Once dry, do some scribble journaling on them. Make it messy. Share all the raw emotions and feelings about it. Use fun brush pens (if you have them), found pens, paint brushes or markers to do this. Then rip up the paper. You can add more layers of paint, ink and writing to help aide in the transmutation as you see fit. Use these scraps to collage throughout your journal. It shows progress. It shows evolution. It reminds you of your power.
Meditation Quest
When you are feeling blocked, or perhaps that you just can’t get started, sit in meditation in your Cave of Inner Knowing. Pay attention to the uncomfortable feelings/sensations. Have your journal on hand so you can jot things down as they come up. Think of this cavern as a heart space to tend to. It will reflect how you’re caring for your creativity and personal well-being. Does it feel neglected? Forgotten? Under too much pressure? Unloved? Write some affirmations for yourself when you realize what it is your Creative Heart is needing. Write them at least ten times daily in your journal until you feel a release of the resistance within you. Hint: You can use your affirmations to create ephemera as well.
Devotion Quest
Build an in-real-life altar to your creativity. It will be a veneration to the land of your Wild Artist Heart. Include whatever speaks to your spiritual practice, and your creative practice. You can take down and recreate this altar as you see fit. You can also add to it as you move along.
Create an offering to leave for this land as well. If you feel as though you want nourishment for your creative self, leave a food offering. If you want to get things moving, provide a small vessel of water. If you want to grow and feel as though you have been stuck, perhaps an herb offering. It’s up to you. You can also write a letter as an offering. This is something you can do when you feel lost. It makes it easier to proceed because we remember how sacred we our, and how creativity is our birthright.
If for any reason it feels unrealistic to create an altar in your home, or perhaps it doesn’t feel true to your practice, you can create a journal spread for this as well. You can include drawing, collage, painting, writing, and other ephemera. There are no rules. It simply needs to be a balm for your soul. You can do this as many times as you need, as with a physical altar.
That’s it for this week! Let me know how you feel moving through these quests. Tag me and use #iridescentexplorations on IG if you choose to share. I hope that you create something this week!
